Does anyone know what group battery belongs in a L2900 Bota? In order to improve starting in cold weather after long periods of non use, should I go to the next larger group size? I know that if I get moore cold cranking hours it will be helpful.

You are right about the cold cranking amps of the battery but I wonder if the larger batterys will fit the hole. It will take a good application chart to tell. I would wonder as to why the need for the battery change to heavier. Is this the original battery? For an older 2900 to be on the second battery would not be to bad of a life. We have been using the Excide batteries for factory replacements. To extend life of batteries it is good to cycle them or use them to some degree even with just a charger once a week for a sort time. ....

The factory Kubota battery has a special connection to it that goes to the dash and we have not been concerned over that feature in our replacements. The boys feel it's a group 24 battery and they are almost sure that teh battery application that they have been using is from a 86 series IH tractor. They are a very deep cycle battery and do work well. ....

I looked up the battery specs for my Ford to make sure I'd get something at least equivalent. The amp hours are important as well as the CCA.

Selection around here isn't large but I did find conventional Excide that would fit in the box with the same AH and quite a bit higher CCA rating than the factory battery. Newer conventional batteries tend to be smaller and have higher CCA ratings than older ones so it shouldn't be a problem. Some of the non-maintenance types that would fit didn't meet factory specs. There are venting issues for batteries mounted in front of a rad. The Excide is vented though the caps and I put the vent notches forward. I haven't had corrosion problems in 3 years with it but somebody with a different tractor might.

Trickle chargers are great for battery life and even help starting in the cold. A battery blanket is even better for the cold. ....
